LuzSec and Anonymous May Win Industry Award for “Most Hilarious” Hack of the Year
July 26, 2011 – 5:45 amIt is not often that one receives a highly coveted industry award. Most of us work diligently everyday and receive modest accolades from bosses, supervisors and clients. So, being honored via an industry award is a pretty big deal. Well, how do you feel about two of the most notorious hacker groups potentially receiving awards at this year’s Black Hat conference?

Black Hat’s Pwnie Awards, while mainly tongue-in-cheek, acknowledge the people and events that have made the biggest impact on the hacking community over the past year. And as you can guess, both LuzSec and Anonymous are potential contenders to receive Pwnie Awards at Black Hat 2011 next week.
In case you are thinking “Pwnie” is a typo in this post, it is spelled correctly. As Fox News points out, Pwnies is pronounced like ponies and refers to the hacking slang term Pwned, which means owned or controlled by a hacker. To keep up the ironical, tongue-in-cheek vibe, winners will receive a Hasbro My Little Pony figurine at the event’s ceremony on August 3rd.
As the article also point out, Lulz Security and Anonymous are among those nominated for Epic 0wnage delivering the most damaging, widely publicized or hilarious hack of the past year.
So our question is how do our readers feel about two “hacktivist” groups that are being targeted by the FBI potentially winning an award for their efforts? Welcome all thoughts, comments and feedback.
